Octoberfest Horse Trials at the Kentucky Horse Park

Wow!  What an amazing weekend we had!  I took 5 horses and riders to the KY Horse Park on Friday for the Octoberfest Horse Trials.  Julie Hooper and Sapphire finished 1st place in their starter division (of 15 riders) after an amazing weekend in all 3 phases.  She started out on Saturday with a 25.5 in the dressage arena (74.5%!!!), and ended up double clear in the stadium and cross country phases to end on a weekend score of 25.5! Congratulations, Julie and Sapphie!  Jen Wenning and “Happy Go Lucky”  started out the weekend with a really nice dressage test scoring 33.9 (66.1%) putting them in 5th  place in the starter division.  After a double clear stadium and x-c ride, they ended the weekend on their dressage score, which moved them up to 3rd place.  What a great way to spend your birthday!  Congratulations, Jen and Lucky on your first ever show at the horse park.  Michelle Richardson and her horse “America’s Favorite Cookie” competed in their first horse trials at the Ky horse park this weekend also.  Michelle and Oreo had a fantastic dressage test on Saturday, with a score of 39 (61%).  We felt the test deserved a higher score, but was good enough to place the team in 11th.  Oreo had 2 beautiful jumping phases on Sunday, which moved the pair up to 8th place in their starter division.  Congratulations, Michelle and Oreo!  Elizabeth and “”Best Sensation” had a nice ride on Saturday in the dressage arena.  The score placed the pair in 5th in the Beginner Novice division.  After a speedy, but very well ridden stadium course,  Elizabeth and Celine moved up to 4th place.  They went double clear in a very “energetic”  x-c phase, and finished in 4th place on their dressage score.  Congratulations, Elizabeth and Celine!  And last, but not least……Karen Guo rode my project horse, McCrae in 2 USDF dressage tests on Saturday.  She had a really nice first test , with just a few minor issues in the first canter circle on the right lead.  The score was a 59%, which put her in 4th place.  Her second test was fantastic.  They put in a score of 65%, and earned another 4th place ribbon.  The judges gave very nice, positive comments to both Karen and her horse.  Karen also schooled McCrae cross country on Sunday after the show was over.  She jumped around the whole starter and beginner novice courses with no refusals or run-outs.  He was a cross country machine.  She also jumped several novice fences before we decided to give him a break.  They had a blast, and it was great to see Karen have such a good time.

Congratulations to all of my awesome riders and their horses.  I had a great time watching all of you ride this weekend.  It is so rewarding to see all of your hard work pay off in such a big way!  4 out of 4 of our riders ended the weekend on their dressage scores!  What more could I ask for?!  Thanks for all of the laughs and for the great teamwork you all demonstrated this weekend.  Thank you to all the grooms, families, and friends who helped make this weekend such a successful one.  We really appreciate it.

You guys are the best.

Joy
